Following our great strand this year we’re taking The Middle Ages in Modern Games back to @IMC_Leeds (4-7 Jul 2022)! The theme is ‘Borders’ but we welcome any papers addressing the Middle Ages/Medievalism in games of any format. Tired of faking claims in Crusader Kings or depressed of the border war in Witcher? Hear the call and talk about ‘borders’ in digital games! Please send abstracts of no more than 300 words and brief biographies as attachments in Word to Robert Houghton by Friday 17 September. We look forward to hearing from you! Postgraduate Students, Early Career Researchers, Independent Scholars and members of any groups under-represented within the academy are particularly welcome. We welcome pieces dealing with any region globally, and within a broad definition of ‘medieval’—including fantasy. This strand addresses the role of ‘Borders’ in the representation, reception and discussion of the Middle Ages in Modern Games. We invite papers and sessions addressing any aspects of the medieval period or medievalism in any forms of digital or tabletop games.
